In Houston, Karbach Brewery was tucked way back in a plaza– the way good stuff tends to be, especially in Texas– where strip malls contain multitudes. In a world where national chains rule, it’s always worth the extra work to find the locals.
Karbach’s Biergarten was adorable, but not pet-friendly– which is always a rub for people traveling in a van with their dog. But that was the only thing about Karbach I didn’t like.
The beer was incredible, one of the better pilsners I’ve ever had. If you often go to breweries, you know that just because someone is brewing it on-site, doesn’t make it good. This beer hit way above expectations. as even Moon (who isn’t big into beer) loved it.
The food also went hard, as everything was fresh and freshly-prepared– hardly necessary for a good brewery to do, but they did it. Housemade hummus, housemade pickles and deviled eggs on the cheese platter, and truffle-parm fries that were so good, I didn’t even get a picture because they disappeared.
Make sure to ask about their signature sauce– it’s a killer.

5 stars– would DEFINITELY do again.
