Now, generally when you meet someone outside a truck stop, it’s not a great interaction.
But this was Quartzite. Everyone and their brother goes to truck stops there– so nobody bats an eye about interacting there. The guard is dropped– and Moon chatted up these two right outside a Love’s.
“What’s your favorite color?” they asked her.
Turns out, they were making free necklace pendants for people– on pennies. Equipped with a Dremmel, and some markers, they ground the face of the penny until the silver color inside shone through, then added the ‘favorite color’ in ink. They wrote “Qzite” into the penny on one side, and my name on the other.
They asked for a ‘tip’ when done, and Moon handed them a fresh $20. Well worth it, for one of our favorite things we have gotten while out on the road.
